IT Profession: Network Engineer

Job Requirement
  1. Certifications: MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CNE
  2. Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or similar.
  3. Systems: Windows, Cisco Systems, UNIX, Linux, Novell
  4. Networking: Switches, Routers, Hubs, Servers, Cables, Racks, Firewalls, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, Latency, VoIP, QoS, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, NHRP, ATM, PPP, MPLS
Job Responsibility
  1. Installing new software and hardware.
  2. Setting up user-accounts, permissions and passwords.
  3. Maintaining adequate security, especially where networks link to the internet.
  4. Finding and fixing faults.
  5. Implementing preventative maintenance schedules.
  6. Giving technical support for end-users
  7. Providing training on new systems.
  8. Carrying out day-to-day administration and monitoring network use.
  9. Planning and implementing future developments.
Knowledge and Skill
  1. Excellent IT skills.
  2. Excellent problem-solving skills.
  3. The ability to priorities tasks.
  4. The ability to explain technical issues clearly.
  5. The ability to work within a team.
